An eyeball planet would seem perfect for solar power, as dependable as you could get really. I doubt cloud cover survives near the substellar point, so you set up a bunch of salt solar energy farms. The construction work would be dangerous and someone has to maintain it (maybe a couple humans and robot workers) plus bring in equipment/materials/food/water/medicine as needed.
Maybe you could have a solar parasite infestation? A crew gets sent in to kill off the pests as they are absorbing too much of the energy, or grow huge solar wings that could eventually block the sunlight (like algae in water).
The extra energy is sold off in crystal batteries, each one capable of powering a small colony for a year or so. Contracts have been signed, demand is high, and management will not accept any excuses for missed production numbers.
