Don't get me started on known extrasolar worlds! Luckily, most of the known planets are no where near us. For now. Once the James Webb Telescope becomes operational, that may change.

Re: Project: Homeworlds/colonies

Thanks Jay! The ultimate goal is to set up a travel time table that you just plug in the phase drive your ship is using, and the table will show you the travel times. Now, if you want to go someone not on the beaten path, then I hope you have plenty of propellant, food, and cross your fingers the th...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

A side note. With the fall of the traditional Western Powers during the Lawless Years, the countries making up South America, Africa, South East Asia, and Indonesia stepped forward and took center stage. Led by Brazil, they were the foundation for the International Cooperative Organization. The inhe...

Project: Homeworlds/colonies

I've been putting together a spreadsheet to list all the inhabited worlds in FTL:2448. The distances are fairly accurate, they are from the Hipparcos sky survey. I've moved a few worlds because the star's position isn't where we thought it was. For example, Fenderwall has moved out to 352 light year...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

Continued from previous post... The second year of Great Storm Adam, 2087, was eventful. Despite the horrendous weather, the fishing boats of Ný Útgerðarbær, the Mimer, Svedjeholmen, and Stormvelden, did yeomans work learning about the various forms of sea life that populated the ocean. The terran f...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

This post covers the years 2080 to 2099 on Frenner II. “ The hardest thing I had to do on Earth was to get used to a real night and not hide in my dorm room in terror… ” -- Dinah Kemit 2080 starts with two workers at Ný Útgerðarbær, the Rolfsson Chartered Colony (RCC) site, suffering minor injuries ...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

Well, I'm doing this to create the history of the first Real colony from Earth. And they are operating in a challenging environment, native life both edible and poisonous at the same time. And I'm covering the first three generations of the colony, the first 60 years. That covers three posts and I'm...

There are Sakuras in Japan right now that are over 2,000 years old. So 328 years is a dawdle for one. Especially if there's family there to tend to it and take care of "great to the great grandma Anny."

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

Yup, with the newer planetary discoveries being made, anything we make now will be just as obsolete as what Richard made 40 years ago. Of course, what Richard created was fairly accurate based on what we knew at the time. As for what Frenner II would look like 388 years later? There would be about 2...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

Fascinating stuff, John! If I'd caught it earlier, I'd have said make Frenner II one of the moons of the Gas Giant to avoid the Tidal locking problem If it's tide locked to the brown dwarf, but has an eccentric orbit, it'll have long day/night cycles. But that's an idea to put on the shelf for late...

An addendum. Besides the restaurants, Frennerville saw the founding of not one, not two, but four different "cottage" entertainment businesses. Two game companies making new games taking place on Frenner II, a publishing company, and a independent Worldnet News service and entertainment se...

Re: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

If we had House Trees growing out in the areas where the fire danger is, they would have done their best to reduce the chance of fire: reducing the overgrowth, start controlled fires within their areas of control, and manage the forest. The foam is a last ditch defense. And for folks unfamiliar with...

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

Gordon Conrad had a problem. Three of them in fact. Three Broops. The Broupians had taken a liking to him. He first tried to shoo them away, but they wouldn't leave his side. But he was able to make them understand when he wanted some privacy: In the bathroom, making out with Wei Lei, sleeping... Bu...

Re: Multi-platform universes

Ah, you made the same mistake I made with the Stellar Platform. It's like a prime platform, but instead of eight 25' rings, it has eight 50' Transit rings that lead to eight separate prime platforms with eight 25' rings each. So, not one link, but eight for each alien world.

Re: Space Pirates

"Space Tortuga" is that rogue planet you mentioned, most likely a gas giant flung out from a star system. In most scenarios, those are going at quite a clip. It would be hilarious if the rogue gas giant Tortuga was in fact the 5th gas giant from Sol. What 5th gas giant you say? According t...
