19.6cm/s^2

Alvarez Station in orbit around the star Fomalhaut, is what you call a "statite". It has 400 square kilometers of solar sails keeping it in place, 45 degrees above the ecliptic. Good thing, as Fomalhaut is only 400 million years old and still has planets going through whatcha call "la...

Re: Near Pets: Talking to the dead

Hmm, me thinks that it would be best served with the kid or two kids played by players as well as the Near Pets. In fact one kid character and his/her pack of Near Pets would be the best combo. That way the kid is trying to make it to the fuel shuttle port, which, for various reasons is situated far...

Re: Near Pets: Talking to the dead

I like it. The kids know enough to get by, but the animals have to make sure that they get food and water. The pets need food and water as well, as they are still mostly meat with a cyberbrain hiding inside their body. The kids are NPCs, and it's the dreaded escort mission for the PCs! And the kids ...

Re: Near Pets: Talking to the dead

I can see it now... Mister Pup: "Fluffysnugums, why are we dragging that solar array with us again?" Fluffysnugums: "We need it to charge our batteries, otherwise we become stupid. Don't you remember?" Snorky: "Lemme check Pup's charge level... Pup, you're running at half ch...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

Ehrmagard... They have discovered Ross 128 b! It's bit bigger than my version, and since it's real, I'm going to have to redo the numbers for the planet. That won't affect the history, but it does mean Frenners are from heavy world, not a light world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_128#Planetary...

Re: Near Pets: Talking to the dead

Nice idea ORTrail. Sounds a bit like Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey the game. :D I'd leave it up to the players to decide if they want to make a go of it. Of course, they won't be able to make babies the traditional way, as they all are "sterile" according the Near Pets write up in...

Near Pets: Talking to the dead

The game lists two kinds of Near Pets : Bioconstructs and cyberenhanced. You can tell that the entry was written back in the 80's. The idea that more than a couple hundred words is the best you could do with computer enhanced brains is ridiculous these days with chatbots with several thousand words ...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

One of the main reasons for the homegrown entertainment was the fact that video series, e-magazines, and other forms of entertainment have to be licensed for distribution. Because there was only few thousand colonists, HSRC had to buy individual copies of most commercial entertainment. Literally one...

Re: Let's Make A World! Fernner II: Ross 128b

Another side note. With the latest amusement already 2 years old when it arrives, many a Frenner sought other amusements. Theater for example. Two different troupes of players did plays outside, or in the larger meeting halls in inclement weather in Frennerville. The RCC had a group as well that put...

Re: Fomalhaut: A Target Rich Environment

Sadly, at a 133 AU, not a whole lot of sunlight from Fomalhaut. Habitable zone is around 5 AU. Any planets at that distance are constantly being hit by asteroids and comets. One of the "features" of the Late Heavy Bombardment was surface temperatures hot enough to melt rock in many places....

Re: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

Question from Jonathan Aaron Thomas: Okay, I've got a question, and until I can get registered on the forums I'll have to ask here: What happens to a house tree that has lost it's owner/partner (due to death of the family line or abandonment)? Do they just wait for the occasional "guest" t...

The Red key give them a Find Fringeworthy out to 10 miles. Level 7 and above keys have a 50 mile range. Otherwise it's a 1,000 feet for keys 1-4. Something to keep in mind.

Re: Pick Apart My Setting

Just a note, this section of your background has an issue: As applicants turn in their paper work, they unwittingly pass within 6 feet of a crystal key. Any job seekers who cause the key to glow are fast-tracked for immediate interviews and job offers. Unless these "job fairs" have hundred...

Re: Bureau Personas: The White Witch of Fremont

The reason why the troll only unfreezes after 1am is to keep him from being observed during evening hours. If you want a reason, the team that froze him in place, used a special concrete that absorbs solar photons and slowly releases them over time. They run out around 1am, and that's when the Troll...
